NOHP Puducherry - Reorientation Training on Tobacco Control in Karaikal for Departmental Heads of Government Offices

Government offices play a key role in enforcing tobacco control regulations like the COTPA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act). Training ensures officials are well-versed in laws, penalties, and enforcement mechanisms. Educating employees on the harms of tobacco and its impact on oral health and the importance of a smoke-free environment promotes a healthier workplace and sets an example for the public.

Taking this into consideration this reorientation training program was conducted for all the 34 heads of department working in all the government offices in Karaikal.

Government officials trained in tobacco control can actively contribute to awareness campaigns and integrate tobacco control measures into their departments’ policies and develop the skills needed for monitoring, reporting violations, and taking appropriate legal actions against offenders.
