NOHP Puducherry - Orientation Training Program for school teachers on Tobacco Free educational Institutions

Teachers are key influencers in a child’s life. Training them helps in educating students about the harmful effects of tobacco and its impact on oral & general health at an early age, discouraging initiation. TOFEI mandates that schools remain tobacco-free zones. Teachers play a vital role in enforcing these rules, preventing the sale and use of tobacco around schools.

Training primary school teachers on Tobacco Cessation and the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (TOFEI) guidelines is crucial for preventing tobacco use among children and creating a healthier school environment. nearly 60 teachers participated in this workshop. Some children may be exposed to tobacco at home or in their communities. Trained teachers can identify early signs of experimentation or peer influence and intervene appropriately.
