NOHP Puducherry - Oral Health Awareness Campaign at the Southern India Science Fair 2025

Campaign

The Southern India Science Fair 2025, held in the district of Puducherry, has become a hub of scientific exploration and innovation. This five-day mega event, running from January 21 to January 25, 2025, saw active participation from school students and teachers representing 5 states, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry, showcasing their scientific models and ideas.

The National Oral Health Programme-Puducherry, in collaboration with NTCP-Puducherry and Indira Gandhi Medical College, organized an impactful stall aimed at educating the public and students on the importance of maintaining oral health and the harmful effects of tobacco use. Proper brushing techniques were demonstrated using dental models, and pamphlets on oral health were distributed.

To further raise awareness, specimens of organs affected by smoking were displayed, emphasizing the serious health consequences of tobacco use.

The chief minister of Puducherry Thiru N  Rangasamy and education Minister Mr  Namasivayam graced the occasion

Educating the public and students about oral health and the harmful effects of tobacco use is a vital initiative to promote overall well-being. Demonstrating proper brushing techniques using dental models is an effective way to teach practical skills, while distributing pamphlets ensures that participants have resources to refer to later.

This proactive approach not only highlights the importance of good oral hygiene but also reinforces the dangers of tobacco use, encouraging healthier choices.

More than 5000 student from nearly 150 schools and general public visited the stalls during this five day campaign.
