Rationale

Innovative community engagement strategies are essential to promote preventive health. The cyclothon was organized to integrate physical activity with oral health awareness, encouraging youth participation while reinforcing the importance of a healthy lifestyle and preventive care.

 

Objectives

  • To promote oral and general health awareness through public engagement 
  • To encourage healthy lifestyles and physical fitness 
  • To foster team spirit and youth involvement in health initiatives 
  • To utilize city spaces for community-based health promotion 

 

Activities Conducted

  • The event “Bombay Bylanes” commenced with the assembly of enthusiastic participants at the hostel, where snacks and safety instructions were provided to ensure adherence to road safety protocols. 
  • Led by Rtr. Shoaib Malik and Secretary Aaditya Gangishetty, participants pedaled from Colaba through iconic routes including Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Kala Ghoda, and Haji Ali, exploring the city’s historic and cultural landmarks. 
  • Awareness messages on oral hygiene, preventive care, and tobacco cessation were shared during halts and interactions. 
  • The ride incorporated team-based games and interactive activities, enhancing engagement and camaraderie among participants. 
  • Photographs and videos were captured, documenting the initiative and amplifying outreach through digital platforms. 

 

This initiative uniquely combined fitness, heritage exploration, and health education, transforming a recreational activity into a powerful medium for public health advocacy.

 

Conclusion

The cyclothon successfully demonstrated GDCH, Mumbai’s commitment to creative and impactful public health promotion, reaching communities beyond conventional settings and inspiring healthier, more active lifestyles.
