Rationale

Creative engagement plays a pivotal role in strengthening health promotion by transforming knowledge into meaningful expression. In academic settings, such initiatives encourage students to internalize public health messages while enhancing their communication and advocacy skills. In alignment with the global vision of the FDI World Dental Federation and the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life”, the Creative Smile Fest was organized as an innovative platform to integrate oral health promotion with creativity, expression, and student participation. The event aimed to inspire future dental professionals to become effective oral health ambassadors, using creative mediums to spread awareness and influence community behaviour.

 

Target Group

  • Undergraduate and internship-level dental students 

 

Activities Conducted

A series of creative competitions were organized to engage students in diverse forms of expression:

1. Reel Making Competition

  • Students created short digital videos focusing on oral health awareness 
  • Emphasis on innovative messaging, creativity, and social media impact 

 

2. Puppet Making Activity

  • Participants designed puppets to communicate oral health messages 
  • Focus on interactive and child-friendly health education approaches 

 

3. Rangoli Competition

  • Thematic rangoli designs depicting oral health concepts 
  • Integration of traditional art with preventive health messaging 

 

4. Face Painting Activity

  • Artistic representation of oral health themes through face painting 
  • Promoted visual storytelling and awareness in an engaging format 

 

The Creative Smile Fest demonstrates the importance of integrating creativity with health promotion. By involving future dental professionals in innovative activities, the initiative contributes to:

  • Development of effective oral health communicators 
  • Promotion of community-oriented dental practice 
  • Expansion of outreach through digital and visual media platforms 

Such initiatives play a key role in building a workforce capable of delivering impactful, culturally relevant, and engaging health messages.

 

Conclusion

The Creative Smile Fest – “Express, Educate, Empower – Through Every Smile” successfully created a dynamic platform for dental students to translate knowledge into action through creativity.
